JadaTalks Presents: Navigating Museums During Turbulent Times

Miami Art Week Presents:
Paid Workshop: CNavigating Museums During Turbulent Time presented by JadaTalks

After being under shutdown for months following the onset of the pandemic, museums and galleries all over are making their long awaited return. Adhering to their local COVID-19 regulations, museums are figuring out clever ways to spur connections from 6 feet away.

Tune in December 3 at 4 pm EST to hear from our guest speaker Michael Tomor, Ph.D., Executive Director of Tampa Museum of Art, Jane Buckman, Deputy Director of Imagine Museum, during this pre-recorded streaming art conversation

Michael Tomor began his directorship of the Tampa Museum of Art in April of 2015.
Since his arrival, the museum has experienced unprecedented growth which has led to the development of four new staffing divisions of the Museum: Marketing and Communications; Security; Facilities and Maintenance; and Visitor Engagement and Experience Representatives. Education programming has grown by 150%, with a full lineup of new education programs: Connections for those experiencing dementia, early-onset Alzheimer’s, trauma and depression; year-round studio art for adults and children offered offsite through six community partners across Hillsborough County in addition to those at the Museum; and year- round teen programs and a Teen Youth Council.

Before arriving at the Tampa Museum of Art, Tomor served as Executive Director at the El Paso Museum of Art from 2006 to 2015 and from 2000 to 2006 at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Pennsylvania. During his tenure at those locations, Tomor maintained a commitment to over ten temporary exhibitions each year plus rotating permanent collections and over a dozen on-going education programs, where he and his team made great strides with regional community education partnerships.

Prior to his directorship at the El Paso Museum of Art, Tomor directed the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in South western Pennsylvania.

Tomor received his Masters and PhD in Art History from Penn State University.
