JadaTalks Presents: Meme Warfare

During Paris Art Week, JadaTalks presents a conversation on Meme Warfare. One of the most discussed topics of the last 5 years has been the commodification of online behavioral data by tech companies and the many ways that this data is sold, analyzed, and utilized. When this data is sold to advertisers or political campaigns it is then transformed into aesthetically targeted online content designed to elicit a certain kind of response from the viewer. This phenomenon brings forth many questions: Is this a new frontier in advertising or an invasion of privacy? Who owns the rights to my online behavioral data? What are we agreeing to when we accept the terms and conditions? What kind of imagery is going to provoke a response out of you? Tune in on October 24, 2020 at 10 AM EST to hear from our guest speaker Avital Shtapura during this online and live streaming art conversation.

Avital Yurievich Shtapura is an American 2D/3D animator, voice actor, and songwriter born on April 9, 1999 in Haifa, Israel. Avital Shtapura is known on YouTube as Mag Magnet. Born in Israel to USSR videographer parents, I moved to Bensonhurst as a toddler, going to fine art classes across the street from my elementary school! I independently created my first YouTube cartoon channel in 2006 (age 7). I studied fine art under Russian artist Mr. Arkadi, spent my Saturdays with at the 92nd Street Y with Rick Bleier, studied with Martha Bloom of the Artist’s League, attended acting courses at the H&B Studio, and took a total of 7 precollege courses (life drawing, illustration, cartooning, 2D and 3D animation) at my dream school, the School of Visual Arts.
